🌍 Week 2: UNDP & SGInnovate — Bridging the Gender Gap in Deep Tech Part of the 30-Week TechSheThink Series: Empowering Women in Deep Tech

Image
Last week, we explored what deep tech is — and why women belong in it. This week, we’re spotlighting two global forces working to make that vision real: UNDP and SGInnovate. These organizations aren’t just talking about gender equity in tech — they’re building programs, funding startups, and reshaping ecosystems to make it happen. 🔬 Why Deep Tech Needs Gender Equity Deep tech isn’t just about innovation — it’s about solving humanity’s biggest challenges. From climate modeling to biotech, from quantum encryption to ethical AI, these technologies shape the systems we live in. And if women aren’t part of designing those systems, we risk reinforcing the same biases we’re trying to dismantle. 🌐 UNDP: Driving Inclusive Innovation The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been vocal about the need to close the gender gap in science and technology. Through initiatives like the Gender Equality Seal, STEM4ALL , and Women Innovators in Climate Tech , UNDP is: • Funding women-l...

🧠 Week 1: What Is Deep Tech — And Why Women Belong in It. Part of the 30-Week TechSheThink Series: Empowering Women in Deep Tech

Image
We’re launching something bold.  Something intentional.  Something that speaks to the future we want to build. This is Week 1 of TechSheThink’s 30-week journal series: a journey into deep tech, ethical innovation, and the women who are shaping it.  Each week, we’ll explore a theme — from quantum computing to climate tech, from algorithmic bias to funding gaps — and we’ll do it through a lens of empowerment, creativity, and radical inclusion. So let’s start here: What is deep tech? And why do women belong in it? 💡 Deep Tech Isn’t Just “Advanced” — It’s Transformational Deep tech refers to technologies rooted in scientific breakthroughs and engineering innovation. Think: • Artificial Intelligence • Quantum Computing • Biotechnology • Robotics • Climate Tech • Advanced Materials • Space Tech These aren’t just buzzwords. They’re the building blocks of the next era — the tools that will shape medicine, energy, education, and even democracy. And yet, women...

Processing a “No” I Didn’t Expect

Image
I’m writing this because I need to get it out of my head. I applied for a job I wanted so much — Digital Information Technology Asset Manager — and I didn’t get it. It’s in my own department. I know the systems, the people, the processes. I’ve got the qualifications, the experience, the education. I’ve worked hard for years to be ready for something like this. And yet… my direct senior manager decided I wasn’t the right person. That’s the part that stings. Because if someone who sees my work every day doesn’t think I can do it… what does that mean? Does it mean they don’t think I’m capable? That they don’t like me? That they don’t believe I could do the job well enough? That I’m not worthy of it? I keep telling myself it can’t be that. But those thoughts creep in anyway. I’m proud of my work. I’m proud of the reviews I’ve had from users. I’m proud of the way I’ve handled challenges. I’m not just a “caller responder” — I think strategically, I solve problems, I improve processes. ...

🌸💻The Quiet Coders: Why Introverted Women Are DeepTech’s Secret Advantage

Image
Forget the myth that the loudest voice in the room is the one changing the world.  In DeepTech, some of the most game-changing algorithms, AI breakthroughs, and resilient systems are being quietly built—often by women who don’t need to shout to lead. Tech has a volume problem.  It celebrates the pitch-deck shouters, the panel dominators, the “move fast and break everything” types. Meanwhile, the quiet woman in the corner?  They’re fixing what was broken, designing what’s elegant, and quietly building the future. 💡🌸Why Women Introverts Shine in DeepTech 1. They Lead with Listening Introverted women are often underestimated because they don’t force their voice into every conversation.  But their superpower?  Listening so deeply they can see the gaps others miss—whether it’s a bug, a bias in AI, or a better way to mentor the next generation of women in STEM. 2. They Build Trust, Not Noise In a field often dominated by bravado, women introverts create psych...

🧠Hormones & High Performance: What Workplaces Still Don’t Get About Menopause in Tech

Image
Menopause.  The word alone still makes some managers break out in a cold sweat—and not because of the office aircon wars.  In tech, where we obsess over optimisation, data, and performance dashboards, there’s one thing rarely discussed: what happens when half your workforce is navigating hormonal chaos —and still shows up to code, lead, and innovate. The Elephant in the Server Room Menopause isn’t just hot flashes and herbal tea. It’s brain fog during a sprint review. It’s palpitations before a product pitch. It’s the quiet leaving of senior women who are “suddenly too tired” but never too talented. Here’s what we’ve heard (anonymous but real): “I used to lead global projects. Now I schedule meetings around my energy crashes.” “They offered me a standing desk but never once asked if flexible hours could help.” Menopause Myth Bingo (Play Along at Your Next Team Meeting) “It’s just a few hot flashes.” “Too young to matter!” “They’ll say something if they need h...

🌟 The Midlife Tech Starter Pack: Tools, Tips & Mantras for Reinventing Yourself After 40 Because it’s never too late to pivot, power up, and code like a queen.

Image
Let’s get one thing straight: Reinvention isn’t reserved for twenty-somethings in hoodies. It’s for the woman who’s raised kids, led teams, survived hot flashes, and still has the audacity to ask,  “What’s next?”- Like me, I done all of that, still going strong, trying to raise my child, run 2 blogs, constantly learning, constantly improving,  If you’re over 40 and thinking about stepping into tech—whether it’s AI, cybersecurity, data ethics, or UX design—this post is your starter pack. Not just tools and tips, but mantras, mindset shifts, and a whole lot of encouragement. Because midlife isn’t a crisis. It’s a launchpad. 🚀 💬 Why Tech Needs You (Yes, You) Let’s talk facts: • Women over 40 bring emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and lived experience to tech. • You’ve already navigated complex systems—whether it’s family schedules, corporate politics, or hormone chaos. • You know how to lead without ego, collaborate with empathy, and ask the questions tha...
